The past few years when visiting my sister-in-law for either Thanksgiving or Christmas, it has become a tradition to have these awesomely-delicious, super-simple baked ham and cheese King’s Hawaiian roll “party” sandwiches on one of the days while we are visiting. This recipe is our twist on the sandwiches.
The base recipe inspiration came from LisaT at allrecipes.com. The only change we made was to add some honey and garlic powder to the mix, which just takes the flavor over the top. The title of this post may say “ham and cheese”, but please don’t feel limited to just ham. Switch up the different kinds of meat and cheese that you use in the center of the sandwiches and I can assure you nobody that eats these little pockets of joy will be disappointed! Enjoy! -Shelley.
Baked Ham and Cheese Party Sandwiches:
First preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9″ x 13″ baking pan.
In a medium-sized mixing bowl combine melted butter, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, dried and minced onion, honey, and garlic powder. Mix well. Set aside.
Separate the tops of the rolls from the bottoms of the rolls. Place the bottoms of the rolls in the greased baking dish. Next place about half the ham/deli meat onto the bottom rolls, followed by the cheese over the first layer of ham. Over the cheese layer add the remaining ham slices. Place the tops of the rolls onto the prepared sandwiches.
Pour the butter/Dijon mixture evenly over the rolls.
Place rolls in the preheated 350 degree oven and bake for about 20 minutes, or until the tops of the rolls are browned and the cheese has melted.
Slice to separate the layers of ham and cheese, serve and enjoy!
