We had some good friends over last night whom we hadn’t seen for years! It was so great getting to catch up and just chat about memories, life and everyday things.
One discussion came up about how they make their own coffee creamer because they go through it so quickly and in such large quantities at their house that buying in bulk so often isn’t cost effective for them. Of course, my interest was piqued and so they shared how they make it with me and it couldn’t be simpler!
They make it a gallon at a time, but since we won’t use quite as much as them in such a short time span, I opted to share a scaled down recipe with you that I whipped up in just a couple of minutes.
We had just used the last bit of a store bought creamer, and so I tore the old label off and then washed and reused the container to put the newly made homemade coffee creamer in. Using a glass mason jar or some sort of pitcher would work equally as well.
When making this, make sure to take note of the expiration date on the milk that you use, and somehow label your creamer container with that date, which will become your homemade creamer’s expiration date.
While this recipe isn’t an exact replica of a brand name or store bought variety of creamer, it is pretty tasty and for the price is a great substitute! Plus, you know exactly what it is that you will be ingesting and being able to pronounce all of the ingredients is usually a good thing.
I am looking forward to tweaking this recipe and making new flavors very soon. If you are a coffee-creamer-lover, try this homemade version out and let me know how you like it. Happy coffee drinking! -Shelley.
*A printable recipe is at the end of this post*
First, pour one can of sweetened condensed milk in a mixing bowl. Next, pour in 2 cups of whole milk and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract.
Whisk mixture well to combine…
Finally, pour creamer into a clean container. Make note of the expiration date on the creamer container {which will be the expiration date of the milk that was used}, and refrigerate until ready to use!
Enjoy!
Homemade Vanilla Coffee Creamer

- This recipe makes a little more than 3 cups of coffee creamer
- Depending on preference: half and half, whole milk, 2% milk or skim milk can all be used for the milk. The higher the fat content, the creamier the creamer will be.
- If you desire a sweeter and more concentrated creamer, try starting with about 1 1/2 cups of milk instead of 2 cups
Ingredients
1 – 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups of whole milk
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
Directions
- Pour one can of sweetened condensed milk in a mixing bowl.
- Pour in 2 cups of whole milk and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract.
- Whisk mixture together well.
- Finally, pour creamer into a clean container and make note of the expiration date on the creamer container {which will be the expiration date of the milk that was used}.
- Refrigerate until ready to use.
*Shake well before each use.

Rachel, I love peppermint mocha creamer so I don’t think experimenting to make one up would be a problem!
I actually just finished a bottle of peppermint mocha from my fridge so hopefully in the not so distant future I will do that! Keep an eye out for it, and thanks for the suggestion!
