Encouragement / From The Word!

Compassion to Heal…

Recently we were reminding ourselves as we talked with our kids about how Jesus has healed each one of them: Child #1 – healing and restoration from polyarticular juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Child #2 – miraculously healing a calcaneovalgus deformed foot, Child # 3 – healing from food allergies, Child #4 – healing from no common bile duct and prolonged jaundice issues, Child #5 – healing from mysterious and lengthy rashes. I’m talking BIG issues that were majorly affecting my little people. Doctors were doing their part, but what they could offer could only do so much. But Jesus.

Jesus is THE healer! I love these testimonies that the Lord has been faithful to give us as a family. Healings from difficult health issues that would have had negative lasting impacts, had the Lord not intervened…

Let’s read a story from this text in scripture illustrating how Jesus shows compassion by healing the sick. Matthew 14:13-14 says,

“When Jesus heard what had happened (the death of a very important person in his life, he was grieving), he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.”

Many times we think of compassion as those feelings we have that make us feel bad for a specific or unfortunate situation, which isn’t actually what compassion is.

Compassion actually moves us to action. It’s not just recognizing there’s a need. It’s not just feeling feelings. It’s recognizing the needs, feeling those feelings that then move us to do something to see change happen.

‭Jesus saw needs and his compassion drove him to meet those needs. He healed those who needed healing!

I want to encourage whoever is reading this right now in this – healing is available for us today in Jesus’ name and through what he accomplished on the cross! Whether the healing we need is spiritual, emotional, physical …it’s available through Jesus AND we can be the conduits of healing for others, in Jesus’ name.

In Mark 16:15-18 we see an excerpt called “The Great Commission” that Jesus gave to His disciples before He ascended into heaven. That commission or charge also extends to us as followers of Christ today,

“And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

I don’t understand why sometimes we don’t see healing happen this side of eternity, but I know Jesus is still the answer, regardless. I know it’s our job to look to Him for answers in life – first and foremost for salvation which is the GREATEST miracle EVER, but also for healing, strength, endurance, wisdom, guidance, etc. I know it’s hard, especially when you are in the thick of the hard and hurt of life. But Jesus – he is still the answer.  His promises are true and are available for us today. His miracle working power didn’t cease to exist when he gave the “Great Commission” and then ascended to heaven. The same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in us as believers in Christ! Wherever you find yourself right now, reach out to Jesus as your answer for healing!

Question: what do you need healing from in your life?

Emotional wounds? Maybe something happened to you at some point in your life that never should have happened…and you find yourself stuck there in that place, unable to move past it. Maybe it even causes you to be emotionally handicapped – and you desperately need a healing touch.

Physical ailments? Maybe you are physically, mentally, and chemically sick and exhausted which leaves you in a place of feeling vulnerable and defeated. You may feel crushed in these areas and you absolutely need a healing touch from Jesus.

Spiritually dead? Maybe once upon a time you had zeal for God and lived out personal holiness, but over time you’ve neglected building upon your own relationship with him. Maybe you find yourself feeling like a dry desert on the inside and you are seriously thirsty for a deep drink from the Living Water that Jesus gives. Maybe you have been seeking out spiritual truth and something is coming alive inside of you shouting out, “Jesus is the way!”

Know this – Jesus has compassion for you in whatever area you need healing. Jesus’ compassion drove Him and still drives Him to heal. Jesus is the Savior, Healer, Baptizer and Soon Coming King. Seek after HIM today.
